A reflection on the teaching
Before a person changes a habit or leaves a painful pattern, there has to be some desire for a different life. That desire may be small and mixed with fear. It still matters. This Pesach teaching places the beginning of redemption at that first honest willingness. We do not have to pretend we already know how to move forward. We can start by admitting what we want to be free of. A useful next step is to name one pattern we would like to change, and one modest action that expresses that desire today.
