Yesod HaAvoda: Hashem Is Interested in You

The worst form of heresy is not claiming that there is no G-d. The worst heresy is for a Jew to say: 'G-d is there, but He is not interested in me.'

A reflection on the teaching
The image uses strong language to challenge the feeling that we are personally irrelevant to Hashem. A person may speak about emunah while assuming that his own life and choices do not matter. The saying attributed to the Yesod HaAvoda asks him to reconsider that distance. This is a spiritual reflection, not a basis for judging another person's beliefs. We can use it to bring one real concern into tefillah. Ask for help with something specific in your day, allowing your own needs and responsibilities to be part of the relationship.
