A reflection on the teaching

This saying can prompt us to examine secrecy that protects a choice we know is wrong. We may avoid mentioning an action because an honest conversation would require us to change it. At the same time, privacy has a legitimate place: personal information and someone else's confidence need not be made public. The useful distinction is the reason for withholding. Am I protecting a proper boundary, or avoiding accountability? That question can help us choose a trustworthy person to speak with and a concrete way to repair what needs attention.
