What breaks a person is not suffering, but believing he suffers alone.

A reflection on the teaching

Pain can become harder to carry when we assume nobody could understand it. The saying printed here brings attention to that loneliness. We should not read it as a judgment on someone who is overwhelmed by suffering; circumstances and support differ greatly. Its practical invitation is to make room for connection. Sometimes that means telling a trusted person what is really happening instead of saying we are fine. We do not need to share everything with everyone. One honest conversation with someone able to listen may help us feel less alone in the struggle.
