One Small Step

"Like a doctor who enters a patient's room with a box full of herbs and medications. The patient said to him: ‘Look how many weeds you have brought with you. Why are they here?’ The doctor replied: ‘Know that every single one was created for a specific purpose. If you use it for what it was intended for, it is a healing. If you use it for something else, it is a poison.’"
(Midrash Tanchuma, Eikev 7)
Hashem didn’t create anything extra. Everything has a purpose. Used correctly, it becomes healing. Used the wrong way, it can become harmful.
That includes our minds.
We were given the ability to think, to plan, to understand. But not to stay stuck there. When the mind is used to move a person into action, it becomes a tool for growth. When it stays spinning without action, it creates pressure, confusion, and frustration.
Koheles says, “כָּל אֲשֶׁר תִּמְצָא יָדְךָ לַעֲשׂוֹת בְּכֹחֲךָ עֲשֵׂה”. Whatever is in your hand to do, do it (Kohelet 9:10) . Not everything. What’s in your hand right now.
People get stuck because they’re waiting for clarity, motivation, or the right time. But movement doesn’t come from thinking more. It comes from acting, even in a small way.
So keep it simple. Pick one thing you’ve been thinking about doing, and do a small version of it. One minute. One step. One action. Something real.
Because one small, real action outweighs a thousand imagined intentions.
